I'm not sure that the HDMI2 mode is the real problem, although changing
it does bring sound back.

Frontend setup has two sets of audio tests: one under the Wizard and one
under Audio. The Wizard version works for me, but ISTR that the 'Audio'
version has been mute for some time.

The device that is found is ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,Dev=1 , but on a
Rescan under the Audio tag the monitor shows

ALSA: snd_pcm_info_getcard: Operation not permitted
ALSA: snd_pcm_open("sysdefault:CARD=SAA7134") : No such file or directory

and the speaker test fills the monitor screen with:

AddData called with audio framework not initialised

'aplay -l' shows only the NVidia devices HDMI 0 and HDMI 1
