[mythtv-users] MythFontManager: unable to load fonts

i'm getting a number of fonts that are failing to load when my freshly installed FE starts mythfrontend. the FE started life as centos7 minimal, and built up using EPEL as well as the NUX repo which is the  recommended repo on the mythtv wiki

starting mythfrontend shows the following (and a lot more font errors):

going to that dir, shows all the files with permissions as -rw-r--r-- and filesize of 0bytes.
so, i'm guessing it's the filesize thats the problem.

problem is, i cant find out how to fix it. am i missing a mythtv package and if so, what's it called?
