[mythtv-users] Frontend Raspberry Pi setup issues

Having gotten my backend updated to mythbuntu 16.04/mythtv .28 I am back to
trying to get my RPI frontend to work, and it's still not working. I am
getting the following in the log, several times:

2017-07-23 11:48:18.363665 I  MythCoreContext::ConnectCommandSocket():
Connecting to backend server: localhost:6543 (try 1 of 1)
2017-07-23 11:48:18.364027 E  MythCoreContext::GetBackendServerIP(): No
address defined for host: localhost
2017-07-23 11:48:18.365293 E  MythSocket(6ad0cb30:-1): Failed to connect to
(::1:6543) Connection refused
2017-07-23 11:48:18.365579 E Connection to master server timed out.
Either the server is down or the master server settings
in mythtv-settings does not contain the proper IP address

But then I get this later in the output (maybe after I finish the setup
screen?):

2017-07-23 11:48:35.527703 I  MythCoreContext::ConnectCommandSocket():
Connecting to backend server: 192.168.1.200:6543 (try 1 of 1)
2017-07-23 11:48:35.536356 I  MythCoreContext::CheckProtoVersion(): Using
protocol version 88 XmasGift
2017-07-23 11:48:35.596082 I  CECAdapter: Closing down CEC.
2017-07-23 11:48:35.858422 I  Testing network connectivity to
'192.168.1.200'
2017-07-23 11:48:36.152177 A Cannot find (ping) database host
192.168.1.200 on the network

So I guess it worked out 6543 access, but I don't know why it had the
errors in the first place because the correct backend IP is in config.xml.
Also it's not connecting to the database. That's odd because I can
successfully connect to the database from the RPI using the mysql command
line client and the credentials I set up for the RPI machine. At this
point it sits there with a black screen and I have to reboot to get back to
the desktop.

How to proceed?
