My "go to" for this sort of thing is to just reinstall the nvidia drivers. Make sure to check for the right version for your card. Something like this might help too. https://askubuntu.com/questions/760934/graphics-issues-after-while-installing-ubuntu-16-04-16-10-with-nvidia-graphics
