I got suspicious about this so I went into the "capture cards" section
again. Sure enough, the diseq for the card was set to "unconnected" despite
me having previously set it to LNB. So this is still a consequence of that
other problem I reported, namely that my configuration changes are not
being saved.

I did set it again to LNB, then exited the "capture cards" section, went
back into it and (luckily/strangely) it was still LNB.
So then I went into the input connections section, scan for channels, full
scan, checked my dvb-s2 parameters there (sure enough they had been
forgotten and I had to re-enter them) and then I did a scan...

...and after a relatively short while and seemingly no serious attempts it
said "failed to find any channels"  and "frequency 10847000 timed out, no
signal".
