BTW this link seems to be also talking same thing I am - however, when I
added the "pcm.!hdmi..." piece in ~/.asoundrc file (there wasn't any such
file so I had to create it) - nothing happened. Is it still valid being
that I have the latest alsa?

Also added same in /etc/asound.conf - which now looks like this:
