Just a quick update to this thread. I have now applied the patch from 12773 https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12773 and preliminary testing indicates a definite improvement, will run for a while and see how things work out.

In case there is ongoing interest - I can see that the patch from ticket 12773 has been applied to master as part of the VBOX changes "VBOX: Add multi-record support to the vbox recorder" from https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/d4c0f13aede582183aed7f13019c85846b7bfe4b. There is also an established thread on the mythtv forum at https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?t=1724 with the discussion and further information.
