Mythcommflag has a few indicators it looks for. IIRC one is a short period
of blank (blank, not necessarily black) screen which often occurs on
transitions. The short wishy washy answer is that a near solid single
colour frame is considered blank so an all sky picture probably triggers
the blank detect. The real answer requires the use of concepts like max
luma and min luma and what not and is probably best read direct from the
wiki at https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mythcommflag#Settings_Descriptions
You can alter which parameters mythcommflag looks for if you wanted to try
and fine tune it the main parts being blank detection, scene detection and
channel logo detection.
