You do not need to enable xinerama but if I remember correctly the
window-manager needs to be compiled with xinerama support.
It's some time ago so I do not remember all details.
I have a three monitor twinview and I have:
Option "Xinerama" "0" in xorg.conf so it's not enabled, but the
xinerama routines are needed for proper multi monitor detection. There
is a thread from me about it maybe the start of this year or a little
earlier.
