I used to always buy AV grade drives for MythTV, they cope better when recording several simultaneous HD channels. WD AV-GP Hitachi Cinema, Seagate Pipeline. I had a couple of WD AV-GP 3TB drives fail and I replaced them with a single 4TB HGST NAS drive and it seemed to work fine, no dropouts during multiple recordings to the same drive.

There’s certainly no point in getting a faster speed drive, it’s noisier, draws more current and the additional rotational speed (7200) is worthless to MythTV. Modern NAS graded drives seem to be well suited to media systems, I have several WD Red 4TB,6TB & 8TB, HGST 3TB,4TB &6TB NAS drives and they all seem to be good.

The NAS drives I have seem to handle loads of simultaneous recordings without issue, before I discovered the AV drives I was always tinkering trying to get things running smoothly and the NAS drives seem as trouble free as the AV drives.
