Or, just do something like:

hdhomerun_config <device> set /tuner2/vchannel <nnn>
hdhomerun_config <device> save /tuner2 /dev/null

and if you get anything other than '.'s, you have issues
in either the device, network, or system (it takes MythTV
out of the equation).

Run for some extended period of time on a channel
you usually experience issues with.  ^C to stop and
get stream statistics.
