That might explain what I was seeing... went back to fixes/0.28 and (for 
me at least), it is working as it used to (LiveTV stays on the tuner it 
was on when doing channel changes - unless it needs a different tuner 
for the channel in question).

Also turns out I was dealing with another flakey usb device on the same 
bus as one of the HD-PVR's... not helping matters. Not sure why it 
decided to wait for an upgrade to go south, but the timing could have 
been better :-)
