Yes, perhaps; and, with hindsight, the probability of this being the better
choice seems higher.

I did not do it then primarily because there were hundreds of unwanted
duplicates and the UI for deselecting them was already cumbersome enough
for deletion. It required a lot more keypresses per entry for hiding. How
much nicer it would be if you could just mark or unmark channels with a
single click per selection, and then globally say "I want these deleted, or
hidden, or whatever". I would have tried hiding if it had been less awkward.
