Hello MythTV mailing list. This is my first time asking a question through
this mailing list so please tell me if/where I am in breach of etiquette –
but gently please. ;-} I have looked for this problem in the existing
mailing list but haven’t found a match.
Reading the “What They’ll Need To Know” in
https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:Diagnosing_Problems, it seems to me
that I can skip a lot of machine level details ‘cause this worked according
to the documentation in the previous release and a little different in the
next. Only the release of MythTV and the version of Ubunutu has changed,
not the hardware.
Very simple question. This is something that was working correctly in 0.27
and after migrating to 0.28, it doesn’t quite work the way it did. This is
a nuisance for me. Certainly not a major problem.
In 0.27, when watching live TV, the ‘Input Connection’ ‘Display Name’ used
to work as described in https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Setup_Input_Connections
which says that the Input Connection ‘Display Name’ is ‘… displayed on
screen when Live TV begins and when changing the selected input or card. If
you use this, make sure the information is unique for each input.’ That is,
when I started live TV, I saw the display name at the top center of the TV
window. When I changed input source (with the ‘y’ key). The name input
connection display name was then re-displayed at top center of the TV
screen. At least that is my recollection – it was some time ago.
Several weeks ago, I migrated to 0.28 (fixes/0.28 (v0.28-2-g15cf421)) as I
upgraded Ubuntu from 14.04 to 16.04. Since then I have noticed that the
behaviour is different to 0.27 in that the initial display behaviour is as
before, but when I use the ‘y’ key to change tuner, there is no indication
of what input connection is in use. I currently have 6 separate input
connections so it is easy to lose track of which input connection is in use.
So my problem is the lack of ‘display name’ on the live tv window after
pressing the ‘y’ key. Can anyone verify that they do or do not have this
problem? Anyone still on 0.27 confirm my recollection of the behaviour of
0.27?
As a work around, is there a way to display the current display name when
in live TV? That would be a good work around. I have two ways at the moment
of achieving this but both are clumsy. (1) See what tuners are in use using
another frontend to look at Information Center->System Status->Tuner Status
and work out which one is in use by live tv (2) Use ‘m’
key->playback->Playback Data and use the filename to extract the device
number and use that to determine the input connection.
