Thank you for your reply.

How would I go about determining if 12.04 has the nvidia 340 driver
available? And if the nvidia 340 driver is available, how would I go about
changing over to that driver? (Sorry for the deep ignorance, but I set this
up years ago, and it has worked great up until this latest vdpau update
broke it.)
