Max CPUs only has an effect if you have no MPEG2 license. If any case
you should set it to 4. It is best to set it to 4 whether you have a
license or not. The latest build will default it to 4, but if you have
already selected it on an older build it will stay with what was selected.

Try the latest build from yesterday. It fixes a bug that was causing
random pixellation.

Do you have an MPEG2 license? Check if it is enabled with
vcgencmd codec_enabled MPG2

You can run without an MPEG2 license, but you will need to set 4 CPUs
and the OSD may cause jerkiness. It is best to have the license.

Can you explain what "kind of sluggish" means. Is audio sync off? If
audio sync is correct and it is not jerky or gaps in playback then I
don't understand what you are seeing. You could also test with or
without the license and see if there is a difference.
