Last night I figured out that the offending tables where in some sort of
half existing state.  But I wasn't sure how to resolve it without some
manual DB hacking.

After running the (simple and obvious in hindsight) SQL you linked to,
mythconverg_backup.pl runs to completion without issue.  Thanks.
