[mythtv-users] MythTV with HDHR Prime and Direct TV

I have not gotten a receiver yet. I suspect it’s the Standard Receiver, I am willing to pay the additional for a upgrade. That’s why I am here trying to sort out what others are using so I know what to buy so I can avoid getting something that won’t work.

Here is 1 receiver

Here is the other receiver
http://www.directv.com/technology/hd_receiver

Both receivers are non DVR.

It appears that linux drivers are not the only blocker with new HD-PVR’s, but any other connection other than HDMI. The receiver is using a 3 cable Y/R/W (whatever it is called) and the HD-PVR (which I am finding on NewEgg) is using a 5 cable R/G/B & R/W) (whatever it is called). I really have no interest in recording protected content, but I cannot even get an idea of how much TV is protected. If all of it, the HDMI is useless. Yet it’s the only standard. Which means I am really blocked.

Here is a example of the HD-PVR I am looking at ($150)

Ok, so it looks like I found a HD-PVR which has Y/R/W INPUTS up front ($350)

Whatever they are, they don’t match. One is Y/R/W, the other is R/G/B & R/W. And I cannot find much in the way of hardware that matches other than the HDMI port.

I am getting to the point where I am ready to give up on my MythTV env and just buy a propriety box. I so wish Comcast would have just made good on their promise to get the dig done. After almost 7 weeks and no cable, no internet. And 3 missed appointments which I stayed home from work. I am done and force to look at other options to redesign around when I had a working system which I owned the hardware too.

Jim,

So for clarification, as I am learning all this, apparently its Direct TV we have purchased thru. Finding a DirectTV standard Reciever with Composit R/W/Y is not hard. It’s the HD-PVR which is becoming difficult. Most have HDMI, S-Video, and R/G/B (video) along with R/W (audio). So I take it this is why your suggesting I find a Gen1 box.
Do you mean Composite or Component? They are two different things. For the best quality results, it should be Component that you are looking for.

I do believe based off of the R/G/B video... He means Component.

What model of DirecTV box are you using?
