Are you saying you have a Microsoft branded USB IR receiver? The kind 
that that has not been manufactured or sold for years? That's what I 
have on my Liva and it worked on Fedora 21 + Lirc 0.9.1a without any 
modification at all. I wish they were still available.

That is unlike this new Chinese receiver I have been struggling with and 
which I am about to start working on once again.
