[mythtv-users] Lircd won't start correctly

I just solved a problem with my usb-mce remote; had the serial driver 
selected instead of usb.  Now lircd won't start:

don at andy:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc start
  * Loading LIRC 
modules                                                            [ OK ]
  * Starting remote control daemon(s) 
:                                    [fail]
don at andy:~$

I found a segfault error in the kernel log that matched a lirc bug (link 
below), but the error went away after fixing the usb selection.  Any 
suggestions on what else to look for?
