I had read that the Channel Icons group was made by default. Downloading puts icons in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels but neither the FE nor MythWeb could see them. For MythWeb I hacked things by copying icons into /var/lib/mythweb/data/tv_icons as others have suggested, and it worked.

Then today I did some more icon-grabbing and cleanup and MythWeb wouldn't see them without copying, and the FE still not. So I thought I'd try to create the storage group and now it all works and I can even remove the icons I copied for MythWeb.
