I doubt there is any lack of interest, nor any lack of knowledge
that there is interest. It is developers able and willing to invest
in the work that is in short supply. If you want it, please do it.
There was a discussion on the developers IRC just a few weeks
ago where the general agreement was that if someone had the
resources to own it, they should go do so (and let people
know to bug them every day "Are we there yet"?).

Well, it depends on the particular G/VPU, but the latest and greatest
Intel VPU post processing capabilities (with MADI/MCDI) are at least in
the same ballpark (the nvidia may still win the home run derby, but Intel
at least has a good showing(*)). Be aware that Intel does not always put
the latest and greatest G/VPUs into even their newer chips (especially
the mobile/embedded/low_end), and the review sites are notoriously
bad at covering the details at that level, so some disappointment may
occur unless you do a lot of research.
(*) As always, quality is still somewhat subjective. Some people
really do not see or perceive or care about the differences that
others find grating.
