I haven't used the ECS specificially, but I switched to using ipxe for 
booting my diskless machines ( minimyth2 ).

It is easy to configure it to pull ipxe via PXE.  When iPXE boots, you 
can have it pull the kernel and ram disk via http which is much much faster.
