(although I believe it is essentially a dead group)

Sometimes you can arrange a "trade" in skills with a
particular developer (just because you cannot, say,
write a new video output driver does not mean you
could not contribute in some other way to the project).

Unfortunately, in many cases, only one/two (or
sometimes zero) devs know some specific areas
well, and they may just be out of available resources
to even consider working on the project at this time.
