Nick, thank you for taking the time to write all that, I've been down that
route already . Here's a quick summary of things I've tried earlier in
this saga.
- totally clean disk install of mythbuntu 14.04.2 on a LIVA ECS, configured
to use Win MCE in the mythbuntu setup results in non-working remote
- futzing around with lirc for a while getting nothing out of irw and
googling led me to ir-keytable
- following a few different how-tos for ir-keytable proved fruitless
- my final conclusion is that there is a driver issue in this distro that
prevents the remote from working under the conditions of a version 1
emulation hardware implementation of the mce receiver, perhaps exacerbated
by USB 3.0 (but maybe not)
ir-keytable output:
Found /sys/class/rc/rc0/ (/dev/input/event10) with:
Driver mceusb, table rc-rc6-mce
Supported protocols: NEC RC-5 RC-6 JVC SONY SANYO LIRC other
Enabled protocols: NEC RC-5 RC-6 JVC SONY SANYO LIRC other
Name: Media Center Ed. eHome Infrared
bus: 3, vendor/product: 1784:0008, version: 0x0101
Repeat delay = 500 ms, repeat period = 125 ms
The system recognizes the receiver, the receiver works with my old
computer, and it works if I install Win 10 on the LIVA, so definitely not
an insurmountable h/w issue
If I run ir-keytable -t, and then repeatedly hit the down arrow on the
remote, this is the output:
1435454572.411703: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x4007
1435454572.411703: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454573.148160: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x200
1435454573.148160: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454573.244100: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x100
1435454573.244100: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454573.788398: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x100
1435454573.788398: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454574.492757: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x100
1435454574.492757: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454574.716826: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x400782
1435454574.716826: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454575.517257: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x400
1435454575.517257: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454576.573777: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x1001e
1435454576.573777: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
1435454576.701858: event type EV_MSC(0x04): scancode = 0x100
1435454576.701858: event type EV_SYN(0x00).
So even before the scancodes get to the key map, they are totally fubar.
Note that I've tried enabling solely the RC6 protocol with identical
results.
At this point I've exhausted everything I can think of - perhaps time to
buy a newer IR receiver, much as it annoys me to have to do so.
