I do have serial ports... but only two, and I have 4 STB's to control.
Additionally, I know it can be complicated getting multiple serial ports
working with LIRC (I believe the drivers only support a single instance?)

I have started looking at building an FTDI based USB transmitter.
Supposedly they can support any combination of 4 IR transmitters/recievers:

It's just frustrating because what I have should work... I just have to
find the source of this lag.
