Thanks for the pointer to molly-guard and extremely useful piece of software that somehow I’d never heard of, I do know what a molly guard is/was though.
Great for the original poster’s problem, which has caught me out before but especially useful for the rebooting the wrong server over ssh problem or the even worse shutting down the wrong server over ssh problem!
