The directory developed at mythbackend start time for the built-in ChannelIcons SG is
relative to HOME unless MYTHCONFDIR was set. But if a ChannelIcons SG was added
manually then the Storage Directory defined there is used. No hardcoding involved.

I agree with you about a new thread for converting from running as root to mythtv.
If CentOS were in the Subject, you'd have a better chance of getting help.
