What do you mean by "It just hangs"? I always start mythfrontend
through a shellscript in an xterm. That way I can easily alt-tab to
the log. And the shell script has a loop with a menu so I can simply
restart or other. Never had any trouble there. The xterm/shellscript
is in my .xinitrc.

Can you start other programs in that xterm? If you use a minimalistic
WM ore none at all you might have to do some setting on the
environment xterm is using.
