Not too sure if this will help too much, but this script might be the basis for something to build on :

Over here it's much simpler - but the channel numbers make no sense whatsoever and we have a pile of "rubbish" (shopping channels and such). So a long time ago I wrote a script to set the channel numbers etc immediately after a scan.

From what you write, it sounds like you have a lot of duplicates, so you'll have top figure out how to identify which is which (perhaps by joining with the multiplex table ?) and only keeping active the ones you want.

It does take some setting up and maintaining, but given how TPTB seem to like having a shuffle from time to time - and hence forcing a retune/rescan - it saves over having to do it all manually in the channel editor.
