Hi,
I don't know if you've resolved this, but I had the same when I upgraded
to Fedora 22 from Fedora 20. For some reason, the composite effects on
KDE meant that when mythfrontend started all I got was a black screen.
I could move the mouse to the bottom left and see the KDE menu flicker
up, but that was it. By disabling the KDE composite effects
mythfrontend started working fine.
My xorg.conf already had:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
