For DM type from Seagate battle seems to be lost:

It looks like Seagate isn't interested much in Linux user base (sad) and 
didn't see negative impact on it's image by non-usability this model 
under Linux (strange!).
I looked little over kernel code and I think fix in kernel to tolerate 
1-3min of SATA freezes will be not easy task (multiple layers had 
cascade of timeouts so increasing SATA timeout needs touching also 
DMA/FS/kernel process timeouts).

Seagate is not willing to mod drive firmware to make this drive usable 
under Linux 4.x+
I wasn't informed about this drive incompatibility with current Linux 
kernels. By this I should have possibility to return it to Seagate. 
Probably I'm naive....

I'll explore what I can do to return this failed model.

I strongly advice myself to AVOID Seagate in future as this is very 
frustrating situation for me....

It looks like old days are returning somehow: before HW buying, Linux 
users needs to scan: mailing-lists/kernel bugzilla/distro bugtrackers 
for compatibility.
I was thinking this is valid for peripherals with highly complicated 
interfaces (DVB, gfx).
It looks like now it is also valid for "simple" things like HDD but some 
particular vendors...
