To the OP:  I am bit surprised that any reputable MSO would
still be handing out Cisco 4240s.  That is a 10 year old design.

That said, I agree that every experience with firewire channel
changing requires one to specify not only the box, but the MSO,
and the the exact firmware level you have in the box, and, just
perhaps, someone has the same box and firmware versions,
and can provide their configuration if they ever got it to work.
IR may not be sexy, but an external, dedicated, blaster seems
to be more reliable (based on reports, do not try to use the
blaster in the HD-PVR).
