This is my first SSD device also. From that link, it says that discard is
not necessary if you have enough spare space. In my case I have used only
5.6 GiB of the 32 GB drive so I think that's enough overprovisioning. You
can always run fstrim manually (as root) to perform the erase function and
speed up your drive (if necessary). Yes I have logging enabled, similar to
yours.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about wearing out the drive. Here's an
interesting link to an SSD torture/longevity test:

The upshot is that SSDs will likely last a hell of a long time. I really
wouldn't expect mythfrontend logs to really stress the drive.

You may not have all the power saving options enabled or configured
correctly, because Dave (see other thread in the list about
frontend/backend combo) reported around 5 W idle before tweaking all the
power options, which then dropped to 1 W.
