[mythtv-users] AFD: Unknown audio decoding error

Over the last few weeks i've been having issues with my mythtv setup, where playback of content (livetv, recording or a mpg/avi file) my FE will randomly crash.
it's tricky to reproduce as continuing to watch the file after mythfrontend crashes does not result in another one.

running 'mythfrontend > fe.log' i'm seeing the following occur. sometimes it's a few times in as many minutes, other times it can be fine for 5mins and then show a decoding error.

searching around, i'm seeing a lot of old info relating these errors to mythtranscode or incorrect ffmpeg compiles with missing codecs. however since these errors are happening on livetv and recordings, and the fact i dont use any transcoding features, these dont seem applicable to me. Aside from crashes and the odd visual glitch playback is fine - A/V stays in sync, no audio dropouts or artifacts in the stream.

i'm on the latest v0.27.4-38-ga2563e1 for both the BE and FE.
FE hardware is the NUC 2820celeron using VAAPI (mythbuntu release)
BE has TBS6981 and hauppauge Nova-T (USB) tuners, with fixes/0.27 compiled myself (no options used: configure;make;make install)
