Well, that depends. If the purpose of the UPS is to avoid database
corruption, you can achieve that without changing the BIOS. If you
want high availability, you can use last state or always on. I don't
recommend always on, though. If I turn something off intentionally, I
usually don't want it turning back on by itself if there's a power
glitch.
In some configurations, you actually want it to be always off, even
for HA, and to use wake-on-lan to turn the box on.
It all depends on the capabilities of your UPS, how you've configured
your systems, and what you actually want it to do.
