It's a matter of choice... Your choice. What do you seem worst,
loosing the recording data since the last backup or not being able to
record. Off cause you can import those recordings in the video
database! And this is what you make backups for!
From what I see coming by, your database seems pretty bad. Off cause
you don't know what caused it, so it can happen again!
I believe you have done an import before and that is quite straight
forward. There is no upgrade in parallel.
The important thing beforehand is to get a working empty mysql
database, so if you cannot log-in to the database to dump it, you have
to stop the mysql service, clean-out the /var/lib/mysql directory and
to be sure reinstall mysql fresh. From there you can find it all in
the wiki.
To be able to look further into the problem and if you have the
disk space, you can move the old /var/lib/mysql directory to another
location. You than can investigate further on another machine.
