It was my recollection that jya(?) also (briefly?) recognized/looked at
this issue in the not so distant past.  I have no idea if there is any
ideas/thoughts/prototype code to be shared between the various
individuals that have looked at this entire area (I believe someone
stated that it also needs to be re-thought out IRT VAAPI advanced
de-interlacing), but as others have stated (as you confirm) this is
not a trivial change.
