Ok. Found it, finally by reverting to 'Default' from 'Classic'

I am set to subtitles/multi-titles Ascending on page '4'
and Alphabetically on page 6.

But there is no setting for 'date ordered' for sub-titles. I will have 
to check the home box, which *may* once upon a time, have been set to 
the other setting 'recording priority'... Since I do not actually use 
any 'priority' settings for programs, that may effectively default to 
'recorded order' meaning date order... Not too intuitive.

I will have to check tonight.
