It is interesting that people are encouraged to contribute, with themes,
documentation, testing and developing but only developers get to decide on
the direction of the project.

Should all contributions of an hours effort not be considered equal?

In other words although developers work on myth for fun and to 'scratch an
itch' and the first developer of the project was kind enough to make it
open source, from that point forward all contributions are equal, no?

As a case in point, people who write documentation are usually writing
documentation based on knowledge they already have, they aren't even
scratching their own itch they already have the knowledge!
