Yes (at least indirectly).  The person that contributed found
that the new implementation was better.  Those who contribute
get the make the choices.  That is no different between MythTV
or iOS (and there are still people unhappy with Apple about the
changes in iOS 7).

As always, your thoughts are likely noted, and the people doing
the work will likely take them under consideration.  But do you
really think they are going to replace their good judgement with
yours?

There can be any number of parallel plugins with MythTV.
You could certainly create (say) an "OldMusic" plugin if you so
choose to do so and support it.  Interestingly, although many
have stated interest in doing so, I have not yet seen a post
by anyone saying they were starting to work on it, and asking
for beta testers (or contributors).
