Thanks for the info Cody and Anthony.

Fact of the matter is I managed to dig out an older lircd.conf that was working with my Harmony 300 and it now works.

We can mark this one "resolved".

I appreciate the attention guys.

Don't know how much help this will be, but the current version of LIRC is lirc-0.9.2 --- released Dec 9th, 2014 (taken from the notes on http://www.lirc.org/). 0.9.1 was released in June 2014 so maybe they've got a fix for you in there.

Lircd loads. IRW shows button presses as expected.  I have the

Also having trouble with Mythmote and Mythweb, but those are issues for

I had this recently on Mythbuntu 14.04.2
it turned out the ~/.lirc/mythtv which was linked from ~/.lircrc was point at the wrong remote ie. remote = devinput (rather then remote = mceusb as below but from you config the remote is not specified (perhaps it needs to be now or perhaps your ~/.mythtv/lircrc is not symlinked to ~/lircrc ?)
