IME, the issue is database activity.
IFF you have enough RAM AND you've tuned the DB adequately then it's not normally an issue. Otherwise at the start and end of every recording, and every time there's a listings update, and every time you do anything that triggers a reschedule, there's a burst of database activity which can easily affect recordings.
I've seen this effect quite a bit before I upgraded my backed - I noticed that many recordings were 'damaged" (in a similar way to noise on the DVB-T transmission) and rewinding would show that it was the recording at fault not playback. AFter a while I was able to recognise a pattern that the 'damage' was about when other recordings were starting/stopping - and hence the system does a load of database activity.
YMMV etc.
