If you didn't have smartmontools <http://www.smartmontools.org/>
configured to do monitoring *and* scheduled self-tests *and* email you
on failures, well, you should have.   :)

With sata drives, there really shouldn't be much overhead to do a
mirror.  The only real difference will be the raw performance of a 2.5
drive vs. a 3.5.   But even then, I think it should be fine under normal
loads.
