There used to be a lot of grey market splitters that bypassed
the HDCP licensing requirements. And there are always new
entrants. But many of the recent gen of splitters are HDCP
compliant on Amazon (the DCP alliance has gotten most vendors
of products that violated the license requirements to either fully
conform, or to be banned from large sites such as Amazon).
Some vendors have moved their sales to alternative
marketplaces, or ship directly from offshore (customs tends to
not catch the one of imports when sent in plain paper boxes
marked as gifts)). So the kiddies who have intent now have to
work just a little bit harder than selecting the first hit on Amazon.
