I'd prefer not to change the theme, as I'm pretty comfortable with the
default one. I won't know for sure until the next time a show with
fanart is recorded, but here's what I did:

In mythtv-setup (which sort of annoys me is a separate program, but I
digress) I disabled the global option that allows the backend to run
metadata jobs.   The wiki
<http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Enhancing_Recordings_with_Metadata_Lookup#Configuring_Recordings_to_Always_Grab_Extra_Metadata>
seems to indicate that there's an option to disable metadata lookup for
new recordings (which seems like a more precise fix), but I couldn't
find that option. Perhaps it was moved or removed.

That still left the fanart when I restarted MFE. And I suppose that
this is because the art was already downloaded. I did a "locate ttvdb"
and found a couple places where the art was downloaded:
~/.mythtv/themecache/MythCenter-wide.1920.1080/
/var/lib/mythtv/{banners,coverart,fanart}

After removing those files, the art is gone.
