for clarity could you post the exact kernel version,
uname -a ; cat /proc/version_signature

If you are really seeing that with drivers built from the linux_media
git repository then I suggest you report a regression on
linux-media at vger.kernel.org. That should get you working hardware fairly
quickly and help start the process of the fix making it into the ubuntu
kernel (which will likely take months).
Have you or anyone else reported the issue to ubuntu launchpad?

I had an issue recently with firmware loading in a dvico dual digital 4
that turned out to be a regression in the cxusb driver. Any sign of
that kind of problem in dmesg? It seems not from what you posted...

Have you tried installing an older kernel, eg the -saucy one?
I am not sure if they are available prepackaged for trusty but
you could probably build it yourself fairly readily.
