If your work account has absurd restrictions, then don't use your work 
account for anything but work correspondence.

Then someone needs to forward a several month (and several mile) long 
email chain to IT, and suggest they rethink that policy.  When Exchange 
server policies mandate that long threads accrue megabytes worth of 
plain text backlog in each email, something needs to change.
