Since 14.10 is out today with the 3.16 kernel I decided to install it
on a USB disk and test the MCE remote, and... Success!!!  Plugging the
remote in to a USB 2 port with the 3.16 kernel works, where it doesn't
in 14.04 with the 3.13 kernel.

Ubuntu 14.04.2 is scheduled to use the 3.16 kernel, however hopefully
it will be available earlier through the LTS Kernel Enablement Stacks,
