The 2250 has the same issue as the 1250. They are no longer
in production, replaced by the xxx5 models, and Hauppauge
has not funded development of FOSS Linux drivers for their
new devices.

You *might* get "old stock" if you order a 1250/2250 (or
950 or others). But you are more likely to get the new
models inside the old boxes (which is what happened to
the OP when ordering the 1250).

For simple values, I would assert that most of the
people on this list should no longer be looking at
Hauppauge devices for future purchases for Linux
(if you are someone like a Snapstream, you can
probably arrange for (and likely want to arrange for)
commercially supported (and licensed, and charged
for ($$$$$)) drivers). As with all else, this can change
if Hauppauge decides to fund Linux development (the
preferable option, since it would suggest commitment
by Hauppauge to their products running in Linux), or
someone decides to contribute their free time to
reverse engineer the chip changes and get them
supported upstream in the kernel.
